In 1987
the Town Council took
the bold step of transforming entirely the parking
system in Val-Thorens : prohibiting parking in the
resort, while, at the same time authorizing vehicles
to drive up to their accommodation for unloading purposes.
Then the cars must return to the public or private car
parks built for this purpose. On the whole, this
innovation was very well received by the customers
despite the restrictions involved. This system of
compulsory and paying car parks already existed in
various resorts (Avoriaz, Saas-Fee) and a number
of other resorts have followed the example of
Val-Thorens, in particular Val d'Isère, Tignes,
La Plagne and Les Arcs.
